ABAI Autism Conference 2009, Florida

Design and development for the 2009 Autism Conference,
including web promotion, DVD case, banners, international-sized
posters, program booklet as well as numerous booth
signage material. A team of four, including myself, worked
on the project. My role as well as with Jeymeson was initial
studies, research and visual development.

The direction was in reflection of Autism's iconic rainbow-style
puzzle ribbon. Using a seven color palate, we allowed ourselves
the flexibility of changing the displacement of the hues in each
medium, giving the overall conference a vibrant atmosphere
without everything blending in together. The grid and broken-down
typography in the background reflects the disorder's immense
complexity with not only age but also severity of its' effects.

Collaborative project with Danielle Giza, Laura Perron
and Jaymeson Tucker.

This project included one of the largest research and concept stages I've had the opportunity to develop. The process stage went from 80 to 0 mph and back again every week. In the end, we finally narrowed down our concepts with a cohesive visual concept: color & complexity.

Giving this conference an uplifting atmosphere was crucial to its success. By chance when mixing paints, we tried a concept of a huge color palette for the marketing material, which was at the time, backwards-thinking for us. We stuck with the concept and heard many good reports from attendees.

One stage that kept repeating during the process stage was simply getting off the computer. Once we narrowed our options, we used cut & paste methods for arranging basic layout concepts; mixing paints to gather our color options and via matching them to the Pantone system; and best of all, we had the opportunity of obtaining a studio to hang all the mediums to make sure we had a cohesive system.

Below are several examples of the initial range of concepts being thrown around the table.
