ADT Access
Curb-to-couch access.

🙌 Promise
Building and apartment access is a key value in the smart home space. The multifamily market adds unique complexities not found in single-family homes, making a seamless user experience essential.
An intuitive curb-to-couch solution in a single app was key to success.
🚨 Challenges
Access projects presented 3 key challenges.
Logic
I played a key role in aligning engineering, operations, and product teams around the core logic that shapes the user experience.
People often think of design as just visual, but the most significant impact on experience usually stems from fundamental technical logic and capabilities.
This is where I excel — helping teams view design and engineering as two sides of the same coin.
Sometimes, a major improvement in experience comes from a simple shift in engineering architecture or approach.
Consistency
Consistency across constraints:
One our core objectives was to design a uniform user experience across different hardware and integration partners.
Often, each partner had unique technical limitations that could easily lead to a convoluted user experience.
Simplifying multiple constraints required aligning on capabilities, anticipating conflicts, and finding solutions that prevented users from having to learn multiple methods to unlock doors.
Simplicity
Streamlining the user experience to be intuitive and glanceable was critical—residents shouldn’t have to think about unlocking their door.
One of the most rewarding aspects of design is creating an intuitive experience, despite the varied and convoluted process behind the scenes.
Land of Logic
I worked with engineering and challenged the team to use advanced logic to create a more seamless user experience.

🧠 Focus
The core focus was reliability and logic.
No matter how great the design, if the logic or reliability causes frequent issues, users quickly lose trust—especially for something as critical as a home lock.
